This role involves performing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the supervision of the medical director or manager. The technologist will provide diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care, and education based on the referring provider's diagnosis. They will also assist patients with mobility during study evaluations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Successful completion of college level math and science coursework.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of infant/pediatric and/or adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to perform sleep equipment hook-up and monitoring.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and equipment routinely used in sleep testing.
  • Must be able to provide safe, compassionate, and competent sleep testing procedures.
  • Demonstrates computer skills appropriate for the position.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards as set forth by Regulatory agencies and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Performs sleep study preparation and set-up procedures per departmental protocols, including reviewing patient history, verifying medical orders, explaining procedures, preparing and calibrating equipment, and applying electrodes and sensors.
  • Performs polysomnographic procedures following department protocols, maintaining continuous monitoring of the patient and clinical events.
  • Implements necessary interventions for patient safety, such as positive airway pressures and oxygen administration.
  • Educates and trains patients on the use of home sleep testing (HST) equipment and performs portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.
  • Identifies artifact, inadequate signals, and study failures.
  • Generates an accurate final report.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, and changes in procedure, to facilitate scoring and interpretation.
  • Completes and submits all documentation based on policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs polysomnographic record scoring and reporting per departmental protocols and adheres to AASM scoring parameters.
  • Generates an accurate final report for physician review.
  • Performs post-testing procedures, including proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures, including safety and infection control.
  • Provides cost-effective care in accordance with department billing guidelines.
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance measures within the department.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of sleep tests/interventions against expected outcomes.
  • Provides supervision in accordance with regulatory requirements, as appropriate.
