About The Position

Registered Nurse (psych nursing) We are a 12 bed residential care facility for adolescent clients ages 13-18 on the autism spectrum. Our clients are high functioning. Maple Lake Academy for Boys is a treatment center dedicated to working with adolescents, and their families. Who we are Maple Lake Academy for Boys is a residential treatment center for adolescents (boys 13 to 18 years old) on the autistic spectrum. Our students are high-functioning children dealing with deficits in social skills, life skills, with an in-ability to understand their own emotions. We provide a safe and nurturing home-like environment for our students to learn skills that push them in the areas mentioned above. Our team works with our client population daily, hands on, and in one-on-one situations.

Requirements

  • Associate, bachelor’s degree/Masters.
  • Active Utah License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Age 21+.
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire.
  • Current valid Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing: Experience (preferred)
  • Psych nursing experience preferred, or strong desire to learn.
  • Must be comfortable with psychiatric medications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees nursing operations of Maple Lake Academy for Boys while on shift which includes directly managing the medical care of the students ages 13-18.
  • Responsible for medical emergencies and the general medical needs of the students.
  • Works directly with the psychiatrist and pharmacy to maintain medication orders and all medication management at Maple Lake Academy.
  • Works closely with the psychiatrist/medical director for medication management.
  • Provides a safe and nurturing environment for clients.
  • Coordinates appointments.
  • Engages in weekly treatment team meeting and communicates pertinent information.
  • Administers minor first aid to employees on campus as needed and triage any on-the-job accidents/injuries to determine if they need to be sent to Work Med.
  • Monitors immunizations.
  • Medication administration/management.
  • Counts narcotics.
  • Works directly with supervisors who administer medication.
  • Conducts a quarterly training with supervisors on medication administration.
  • Monitors resident cleanliness, hygiene and safety.
  • Communicates directly with parents about medical concerns, needs, appointments, changes in medication etc.
  • Responds to parent calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Responds to reports of pain or illness at they arise with clients.
  • Determines when a client should be placed on bedrest due to illness.
  • Assesses ill clients.
  • Monitors vital signs and weight of clients.
  • Coordinates pharmacy and labs.
  • Communicates with the treatment team.
  • Maintains record for infection control and staff illness.
  • Prepares and maintains medical files for Joint Commission audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
