RN (Registered Nurse)

First Connect Health•Omaha, NE

About The Position

Registered Nurse for a 28-bed Med/Surg unit caring for cardiology, surgical oncology, urology, and complex general medical-surgical patients. Patient ratios are 1:5–6. The unit uses telemetry with centralized monitoring technicians; RNs must be able to read basic strips. The unit has nurse aides at ratios of 1:10–14. Respiratory equipment includes nasal cannula for acute patients requiring less than 6 L and trach collars. Common drips include IV fluids; RNs are not required to titrate drips. The role involves 12-hour shifts and self-scheduling, subject to manager approval for unit balancing. Nurses work every other weekend and are required to work holidays; no time off is approved over holidays. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating is based on skill level. Unit-specific orientation lasts 1–2 days. Nurses must pass an open-book exam during Friday orientation, scoring at least 90%; the exam covers skills taught, and resources are provided. Failure to pass results in termination. A driver’s license is required at submission to determine whether the candidate lives outside the 50-mile radius. Artificial nails are prohibited in patient-care departments; refusal to remove them results in termination of the contract. Candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity.
