Registered Nurse - Part Time - Iowa Veterans Home
About The Position
The Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) in Marshalltown serves 399 veterans and spouses and describes its work as a mission to provide resident-centered care with dignity and compassion. The Registered Nurse leads a direct care team and provides and oversees licensed treatments for up to 30 residents. The RN assesses and evaluates resident conditions, takes appropriate action, adjusts care plans, collaborates with physicians and the healthcare team, mentors care staff, and responds to acute resident changes. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling options, including evening shifts, extended day/evening shifts, and a weekend package. Weekend package staff must work at least 32 hours each weekend across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and a total of 40 hours per week. Lodging and meals are available upon request for this schedule. Starting pay is $35.57 per hour. A $1,500 recruitment payment is offered to eligible part-time RNs; current State of Iowa employees are not eligible upon transfer, demotion, or promotion to another agency. Weekend package staff are also paid $4,000 in retention payments over 26 pay periods. Applicants are subject to criminal background, dependent adult abuse, and child abuse checks. The State of Iowa uses E-Verify to confirm newly hired employees’ eligibility to work in the United States.
Requirements
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
- Applicants are subject to a criminal background check and dependent adult abuse and child abuse checks.
- New hires must complete the State of Iowa’s E-Verify employment eligibility verification process.
Responsibilities
- Provide and oversee licensed treatments for up to 30 residents.
- Assess and evaluate resident conditions, take appropriate action, and adjust care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to support the best resident outcomes.
- Lead and mentor Resident Aides, CNAs, Medication Aides, and LPNs.
- Respond professionally, skillfully, and compassionately to acute changes in residents.
