About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides critical care to patients in the Stepdown Care Unit during a vulnerable time in their lives. The role involves caring for patients and supporting their families through updates, communication, and education. Nurses use decisiveness, preparation, understanding, and high-level critical thinking to deliver safe, compassionate care. The nurse prioritizes, coordinates, and delegates patient care; monitors vital signs and life-support measures; addresses complex patient conditions and psychosocial needs; and responds to significant events, changes in condition, and patient or family concerns. The role also supports continuity of care, efficient patient throughput, infection control, and a positive patient experience. This position is at Lakeview Hospital, part of LCMC Health.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current PALS certification.

Responsibilities

Prioritize, coordinate, and delegate all care touchpoints for assigned patients.
Evaluate vital signs according to standards of care and monitor life-support measures, including advanced heart and respiratory technology.
Apply knowledge of complex patient conditions, including psychosocial needs.
Maintain and advocate for a safe environment.
Communicate promptly with patients, families, and appropriate care team members about significant events, changes in patient condition, or questions and concerns.
Prevent and treat wounds.
Monitor and carry out Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and an exceptional patient experience.
Collaborate with and consult the nursing supervisor to identify and meet overall patient care needs, including when assignments or tasks cannot be completed promptly, effectively, or safely.
Initiate patient and family education using appropriate resources and continuum-of-care services.
Assist other team members without being asked.
