About The Position

Rapides Regional Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse for ambulatory care. The role involves evaluating patients before surgery, preparing them for procedures, and providing education to patients and families about perioperative care, treatment, and follow-up. The nurse works as part of an interdisciplinary surgical team and delivers safe, high-quality, patient-centered care using the nursing process, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices. On-call coverage is required during select non-business hours. Scheduling is self/preferential and posted four weeks in advance.

Requirements

One year of acute care nursing experience.
Registered Nurse (RN) credential.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within six months of employment start date.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within six months of employment start date.
Basic Cardiac Life Support, CPR for Healthcare Providers, a Registered Nurse Diploma, an Associate Degree, or a Bachelor's Degree must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
Educate patients and families about procedures and the perioperative process.
Prepare patients for surgery, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
Participate in surgical site verification, briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols in accordance with hospital policy.
Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
Deliver patient-centered care while applying evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with providers, surgeons, surgical technologists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to deliver safe nursing care independently.
Assess patients, monitor their condition throughout the shift, and thoroughly document changes and care provided.
Educate patients and families or caregivers about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up measures.
