Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Specialties Unit
About The Position
Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) at Norfolk General Hospital's Medical Specialties Department, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a Full Time, Weekend Day shift position (7a-7p) working either Friday/Saturday/Sunday OR Saturday/Sunday/Monday. The Medical Specialties Unit is a 42-bed unit that cares for a diverse patient population including CHF, Sickle Cell, Renal Failure, Vascular, Sepsis, COPD, Pneumonia, Osteomyelitis w/ Surgical Interventions, Wound Care, and various other disease processes. The unit utilizes EPIC integration for data input and communication tools like walkie-talkies to foster teamwork. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. All Direct Care RN's are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
Requirements
- RN Degree REQUIRED
- Virginia RN License REQUIRED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire

Responsibilities
- Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
- Assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation.
- Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
- Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
