About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the Joint and Orthopedic Operating Room at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville, Tennessee. This full-time, day-schedule role performs both scrub and circulating functions. The nurse selects and handles instruments and supplies, monitors and communicates patient condition, and manages nursing care before, during, and after procedures. The nurse also assists the operating physician with surgical tasks and prepares operating rooms, instruments, and equipment for use.

Requirements

• Hold a Registered Nurse license from the Tennessee Board of Nursing, or have a current home-state license recognized under the multi-state Compact State arrangement before the hire or job transfer date.
• Meet one or more of the stated life-support certification requirements: Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire or transfer, or BLS Provider within 1 month of hire or transfer. American Heart Association or American Red Cross certifications are accepted.
• Have a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, or the required professional licensure at the time of hire.

• Previous circulator experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform scrub functions, including selecting and handling instruments and supplies used during procedures.
• Perform circulating functions, including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
• Directly assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
