The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. This role administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act. The nurse performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, documenting according to standards. They develop, initiate, and execute a patient plan of care according to individualized needs, as prescribed by a Physician and/or clinic policy, including patient and family instruction. The role utilizes available resources to teach and support patient and family education, providing education to the appropriate level of understanding. The Registered Nurse acts to resolve systems breakdowns and engages self and others in providing solutions. They participate in department or unit performance improvement activities, which may include shared governance. The nurse utilizes clinical expertise and guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care. They use critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalate to the appropriate chain of command. The position involves participation in the professional nursing continuum process, unit/department practice activities and decisions, and the peer review process. The Registered Nurse positively influences the professional and organizational environments and shared governance. They engage in personal development and support system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines.
