About The Position

UPMC Presbyterian is seeking experienced Registered Nurses for Casual and/or Limited Casual positions. This is an opportunity to join a Magnet-designated teaching hospital and a center for cutting-edge research and education. The role offers flexible shifts with a minimum requirement of 30 shifts per year or 36 hours within a 6-week period. UPMC Presbyterian is a nationally recognized academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center known for excellence in transplantation, cardiology, trauma, stroke, and complex specialty care. The position offers a state-of-the-art practice environment in the new Kamin Tower, opening in January 2027, featuring advanced patient care technology and innovative spaces. Nurses will work alongside leading clinicians, researchers, and educators in a renowned teaching hospital committed to innovation, professional development, and evidence-based practice. This role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver life-changing care and shape the future of patient-centered healthcare. The environment is fast-paced and requires teamwork, with Registered Nurses working rotation shifts including weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage.

Requirements

  • 1 year of RN experience required.
  • An Associates Degree in Nursing, BSN, or MSN is required.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care and interact with all ages of patients. Understand the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients and their families, executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and other departments.
  • Work productively and effectively in an environment with changing priorities that require specialized skills.
  • Think critically to analyze and problem-solve to deliver the best patient care. Use sound clinical judgment and problem-solving to deliver quality patient care when it matters most.
  • Understand, apply, and champion nursing best practices.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within complex environments and handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 12 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
  • Graduate nurses must complete the licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.
