About The Position

River Oaks Hospital is a 126-bed behavioral health facility that provides inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency treatment. River Oaks’s caring, and multidisciplinary staff has successfully provided inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency care to children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults since 1970. River Oaks Hospital is located in Harahan, LA on a short drive from New Orleans. River Oaks Hospital is a Joint Commission accredited hospital with a solid reputation in the community and is part of one of the nation’s largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services, Universal Health Services, Inc. This is a Registered Nurse position that delivers, coordinates, and evaluates patient care through collaborative efforts with health team members in accordance with the nursing process and the standards of care and practices. The Staff Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served. This is a non-exempt hourly position. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing; current licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nurses.
  • Ability to clearly speak, write and understand verbal and written English.
  • Selected skills/credentials as defined by the department’s scope of services.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric hospital or related inpatient setting preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a mental health hospital setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective patient interaction.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to exhibit empathy, respect and compassion that involve understanding and care for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proper nursing care to all patients, consults with Physicians and other members of the treatment team.
  • Ensures patients are consistently monitored in the proper location for the duration of activities.
  • Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
