About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing same-day surgery. The role includes evaluating patients before surgery, preparing them for procedures, educating patients and families, monitoring their condition, and responding to emergencies. The nurse collaborates with providers, surgeons, surgical technologists, and other surgical staff to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care and support continuous improvement.

The position offers self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance, collaboration among surgical staff, ongoing investment in operating-room equipment, and opportunities to share suggestions with unit leaders. On-call coverage is required during select non-business hours.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN).
• Registered Nurse Diploma.
• Previous surgical services experience required.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Educate patients and families about the procedure and perioperative process.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including providing intravenous therapy and preoperative medications and verifying the surgical site.
• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver patient-centered care while applying evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists.
• Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care.
• Assess patients, monitor their condition throughout the shift, and thoroughly document changes and care provided.
• Educate patients and families or caregivers about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up measures.
