Brain Stimulation Services is a clinic focused on delivering cutting edge, evidence-based therapy to target treatment-resistant depression and other mood disorders using stimulation techniques including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Located at MUSC’s Institute of Psychiatry, this clinic treats both inpatients and outpatients. The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Nurse is responsible for coordinating and providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing ECT treatment across the continuum of care, including pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedural support, and post-anesthesia recovery monitoring. This role collaborates closely with psychiatrists, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered treatment delivery while maintaining compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. The ECT Nurse provides patient and family education, monitors treatment response and side effects, supports quality and safety initiatives, assists with scheduling and care coordination, and contributes to the ongoing development and optimization of neuromodulation services.
