About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Surgical Services provides comprehensive perioperative care, including Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) responsibilities. This role involves delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across the surgical continuum—from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience required
  • Compliance with all hospital policies, including vaccination requirements (approved exemptions considered)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening (post-offer)

  • Previous OR and/or PACU experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, individualized nursing care using the nursing process
  • Prepare patients for surgery and provide post-operative recovery care
  • Monitor patient physiological status and respond to changes
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Administer medications and document care accurately
  • Maintain surgical equipment, supplies, and sterile environment
  • Educate patients and families before and after procedures
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives
  • Coordinate surgical care and serve as liaison between surgical team and family (OR/Circulating Nurse)
  • Ensure correct patient, procedure, and site verification (OR/Circulating Nurse)
  • Maintain sterile field and enforce aseptic technique (OR/Circulating Nurse)
  • Monitor equipment and ensure safe surgical environment (OR/Circulating Nurse)
  • Manage documentation and specimen handling (OR/Circulating Nurse)
  • Prepare and manage surgical instruments and supplies (Scrub Nurse)
  • Assist surgeon by passing instruments and maintaining sterile field (Scrub Nurse)
  • Perform surgical counts before and after procedures (Scrub Nurse)
  • Assist surgeons during procedures (First Assist, if applicable)
  • Support wound exposure, hemostasis, and suturing (First Assist, if applicable)
  • Monitor patients’ post-anesthesia recovery (PACU)
  • Assess and manage airway, pain, and vital signs (PACU)
  • Respond to complications and maintain patient stability (PACU)
