About The Position

This Registered Nurse position is a per diem role within a practice at the forefront of cutting-edge cancer care and advanced treatments. The practice has multiple locations throughout the Capital Region and contributes to groundbreaking clinical trials. The Registered Nurse will provide professional nursing care for patients, adhering to national and company standards, and demonstrate knowledge of age-specific differences in the patient population. They will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to manage patient and family needs.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred or required unless grandfathered in.
RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Must maintain continuing education requirements.
0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.

Responsibilities

Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding status and medical history.
Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions.
Review and report the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider.
Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
Learn to mix chemotherapy/immunotherapy.
Administer all medications by correct dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable.
Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central lines catheter devices.
Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
Restock the supply area as needed.
Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen.
Maintain all disinfection protocols.
Maintain equipment according to quality control standards.
Facilitate clinical operations and patient care.
Manage patient medication refill requests and record the information in the patient chart.
Assist physician with exams and procedures.
Maintain efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient's chart.
Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
Assist patients in locating available community resources.
Inter professional collaboration.
Assist and collaborate with clinical research.
Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
Provide nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
