About The Position

Messino Cancer Centers is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to join their growing infusion team. This role offers a flexible schedule, competitive pay, and a comprehensive benefits package. The position involves providing safe and accurate patient care, including assessment, medication administration, patient education, and documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The nurse will administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, and other agents, adhering to Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards. Responsibilities also include accurate disposal of biohazardous waste, telephone triage, assisting with medical supplies, and completing required trainings. The role requires flexibility to work at any company location and potentially overtime. Compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, as well as company policies, is expected.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree
  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential.
  • Must have strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
  • Critical thinking skills including solid problem solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and sometimes emotionally charged matters.
  • Good command of the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration.
  • Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role.
  • Provides triage care when necessary.
  • Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.
  • Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers.
  • Uses Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
  • Ensures accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Responsible for new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
  • Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.
  • Ensures appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
  • Follows proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters.
  • Educates patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.
  • Interacts with patient and family in a caring, professional manner.
  • Performs telephone triage, including prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent.
  • Responds to calls and messages in an appropriate time frame.
  • Assists with inventory and re-stocking of medical supplies, recommends purchase of new items as needed.
  • Places stock in storage areas in a timely manner.
  • Completes annual required safety and nursing trainings.
  • Attends all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Maintains and ensures the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Assists in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
  • Expected to work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations.
  • Expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.
