The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for preparing the patient for surgery and providing post-operative care after surgery. This role utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of patient care. The RN provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures, and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice. They also provide appropriate counsel and education to patients and families regarding surgical procedures, outcomes, preparation, and follow-up. Maintaining medical records with appropriate and timely recording of patient information is crucial. The RN consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes. They assist the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills, and other processes related to direct patient care. Maintaining required skills and competencies and participating in education programs, staff meetings, and in-services such as CPR as required is also part of the role. The RN maintains an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with Company policies, actively shares ideas constructively and positively, keeps commitments, and keeps their direct supervisor informed of work progress. They advocate and assist in maintaining a clean, neat, and cheerful environment. Strict compliance with State, Federal, and other regulations (e.g., OSHA, WC, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL, HR policies and practices) is required. The RN prepares for upcoming surgical procedures, ensures the ASC has all necessary nursing supplies and equipment, and works closely with Anesthesia in assisting in screening and communicating clearances. They also go through monthly outdates and medication recalls. Other duties as assigned by management.
