The Registered Nurse works in the Behavioral Health Unit at Samaritan Hospital, caring for patients experiencing severe psychiatric crises who need inpatient safety, care, and treatment to stabilize. Care is individualized, with an emphasis on maintaining safety, medication stabilization, and developing coping skills. The RN supports a primary unit and is cross-trained in all four Behavioral Health units: Adult Psych, Senior/Geriatric Psych, MICA (Mentally Ill/Chemically Addicted), and Crisis ER. These units serve patients with psychiatric and substance-use needs, including patients with co-occurring medical conditions and people ranging from adolescence through geriatrics. The RN assesses each patient's needs; plans, delivers, and evaluates nursing care that addresses spiritual, emotional, and physiological needs; and ensures the care plan is carried out directly or through supervised personnel. The RN adapts care to patients' ages, growth, and development, maintains clinical and safety standards, and provides patients and families with a professional, caring, and safe environment. When serving in the charge role, the RN also performs clinical and leadership functions. The RN is directly accountable to the Nurse Manager for the quality of care delivered.
