This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses who have greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the interdisciplinary team. The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Traumatic Brain Injury Unit, Night shift, is responsible for providing and coordinating independent care to patients. This role requires the nurse to be a fully effective and participative member of the interdisciplinary team. The RN will provide independent care to the unit-specific patient population, serve as a clinical resource for others, utilize and integrate evidence into practice, and function effectively in unit-specific roles such as charge nurse. They are accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes, to peers for advancing group practice, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance. The RN will serve as an effective primary nurse, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to address patient and family needs. Additionally, the RN will assist in team development, evaluate patient care delivery, suggest improvements, and participate in data collection for outcomes like handoffs and medication safety. They will also participate in implementing nursing quality indicators, performance improvement, evidence-based practice, or research at the unit level, and comply with TJC/CARF regulatory compliance standards. The RN will support charge nurse decisions, perform charge nurse duties as needed, and support interdisciplinary communication and collaboration. They will assist in developing clinical practice protocols and standards, participate in shared governance activities, and orient Clinical Nurse I to the shared governance structure. Furthermore, the RN will serve as a preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students, contribute to ancillary personnel skills development, and attend educational offerings. They will contribute to unit-based peer review processes and actively participate in individual peer review feedback. The RN is responsible for maintaining competencies, advancing professional development, demonstrating strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and exhibiting leadership qualities. They must be effective team members, able to learn and use computer systems for patient information management, and support teamwork efforts. The RN must demonstrate knowledge and skills for patient care appropriate to the population served, including understanding growth and development principles and assessing age-specific needs. Patient safety is paramount, requiring the RN to ensure safety in job functions, participate in safety initiatives, correct observed risks, report adverse events, and identify and communicate process risks.
