The Registered Nurse (RN) works on the 8T Mother Baby Nursing Unit at Carolinas Medical Center, providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process. The RN delivers safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures, using evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, compassion, and communication skills to help create a safe environment and a positive patient experience across the continuum of care. The 36-room unit provides comprehensive obstetrical care to a diverse, multicultural patient population. Typical patients are postpartum mothers and newborns after vaginal or cesarean deliveries, with or without complications. Newborns are generally stable but may need blood tests, glucose monitoring, car seat testing, or phototherapy. Before discharge, newborns receive hearing and state-mandated screenings. The unit also has a nursery for newborns needing continued medical care after maternal discharge or whose mothers transfer to other Women’s Division units. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 couplets. This is a PRN night-shift position, scheduled 7 p.m.–7 a.m., with weekend and holiday requirements. It is part-time and not benefits-eligible. Candidates must have at least six months of RN experience; this position is not for new graduates. ACLS and PALS certifications are required within six months of hire.
