About The Position

Hillsdale Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Casual / PRN position in the Surgery / OR Circulator role. This position involves providing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. The work schedule is casual/PRN, with a normal surgery schedule from 6:45 am to 3:15 pm, and includes being on call on a rotation. There is a potential for varied shifts based on surgical volume. Requirements

  • Valid Michigan RN license
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing - minimum of an associate's degree
  • Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patient
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification (available through Hillsdale Hospital)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in surgery is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical and psychosocial preparation for surgery including answering patient questions related to their surgical experience pre-operatively, intra-operatively and post-operatively.
  • Work closely with physicians in assessing and treating pre and post procedure patients.
  • May need to assist physicians with family contacts.
  • Assess all O.R. patients the morning of their surgery to assess pre-operative status and verify completeness of PAT process and chart, effectively integrating, informing and involving other departments in patients’ pre-operative needs.
  • Start pre-procedure IV’s.
  • Provide post op patient care.
  • Be aware of the post-operative condition and communicate with the surgeon when necessary.
  • Assist physician and anesthesia with the care of endoscopy patients.
  • Monitor and assist team members during the procedure.
  • Obtain and coordinate with other departments the ordered screening tests pre-operatively: EKG-Cardiopulmonary, x-rays, lab specimens.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation required in the department.
  • Monitor and assure accurate recording of events on the patient record.
