Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
Current Idaho Registered Nurse (RN) License required
Current BLS certification required
Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills

Nice To Haves

ACLS and PALS certifications highly recommended
Current hospital nursing experience within the past five years or recent nursing graduate within the past two years
Previous Operating Room or Perioperative nursing experience preferred
Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred
Knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and sterile technique
Ability to function as a circulating nurse during surgical procedures
Understanding of anesthesia principles and post-operative care
Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making abilities
Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and teamwork

Responsibilities

Deliver individualized, patient-centered perioperative nursing care through every phase of the surgical experience.
Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional surgical care.
Assess, prepare, and educate patients before surgery.
Perform pre-operative assessments and verify patient identity, procedure, and surgical site.
Serve as the circulating nurse during a variety of surgical procedures.
Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and protection throughout surgery.
Monitor patient safety while maintaining sterile technique and infection prevention standards.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and PACU staff.
Assist with anesthesia procedures, patient monitoring, and intraoperative care.
Coordinate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts to ensure patient safety.
Communicate patient status effectively throughout each phase of care.
Participate in patient transfers and provide thorough handoff reports.
Maintain complete and accurate surgical documentation.
Assist with specimen handling and medication administration according to hospital policy.
Prepare operating rooms, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure surgical readiness.
Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based perioperative practices.
Assist in PACU as needed following appropriate orientation.
