Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Current Idaho Registered Nurse (RN) License required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS and PALS certifications highly recommended
  • Current hospital nursing experience within the past five years or recent nursing graduate within the past two years
  • Previous Operating Room or Perioperative nursing experience preferred
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred
  • Knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and sterile technique
  • Ability to function as a circulating nurse during surgical procedures
  • Understanding of anesthesia principles and post-operative care
  • Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making abilities
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized, patient-centered perioperative nursing care through every phase of the surgical experience.
  • Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional surgical care.
  • Assess, prepare, and educate patients before surgery.
  • Perform pre-operative assessments and verify patient identity, procedure, and surgical site.
  • Serve as the circulating nurse during a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and protection throughout surgery.
  • Monitor patient safety while maintaining sterile technique and infection prevention standards.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and PACU staff.
  • Assist with anesthesia procedures, patient monitoring, and intraoperative care.
  • Coordinate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts to ensure patient safety.
  • Communicate patient status effectively throughout each phase of care.
  • Participate in patient transfers and provide thorough handoff reports.
  • Maintain complete and accurate surgical documentation.
  • Assist with specimen handling and medication administration according to hospital policy.
  • Prepare operating rooms, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure surgical readiness.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based perioperative practices.
  • Assist in PACU as needed following appropriate orientation.
