About The Position
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. Qualified candidates may be eligible for up to a $20,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance. This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week, available for Day or Night shift (7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.). The role requires working every other weekend and holiday rotation. 9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. The unit brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates. Nurses on 9 Kaufman will care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also serves as an extension of our renal/pancreas transplant program. Every bed is monitored, allowing nurses to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The unit provides specialized training and supports nurses in pursuing PCCN certification. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. New graduate RNs are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, which is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program for new graduates. The starting pay rate for new graduate registered nurses with less than 1 year of experience is $36.00/hour. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region’s first Magnet hospital, a 525-bed medical center, a primary teaching facility, and home to the area’s only Level I Trauma Center within a 126-mile region. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice and the standards of professional performance encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse license required
- Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
- Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
Nice To Haves
- BSN or MSN preferred
- Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
- Prior RN experience preferred
- Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience preferred
- Strong candidates with related acute care, intermediate care, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
- New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no acute care experience are encouraged to apply
