About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for assigned patients during a given period. The RN works under minimal supervision and follows established policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards. The position is on a 25-bed unit that includes a three-bed SCU, with private rooms and nurse-to-patient ratios based on acuity. The unit offers self-scheduling on a rotating basis and has an on-site provider 24 hours a day. Other assignments may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

Graduate of an associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or diploma school of nursing.
Current Illinois RN licensure; applicants with Illinois RN licensure in progress may be considered.
Current BLS certification is required.

Nice To Haves

ACLS certification is preferred.
At least three years of experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Complete physical assessments and patient interviews according to departmental policy.
Implement patient care plans by providing and delegating direct care.
Identify and communicate unusual or abnormal assessments and patient care problems to the Charge Nurse or Manager.
Administer medications safely and accurately within professional judgment and policy, following medication-administration rights.
Initiate, monitor, and manage IV therapy.
Use patient-care opportunities to teach and reinforce instruction for patients, family members, and significant others.
Review instructions with patients, family members, and significant others before transfer or discharge, and send appropriate forms.
Determine and delegate assignments appropriately so tasks are completed within the allotted time.
Explain procedures and treatments thoroughly to patients, families, and significant others before completion.
Maintain knowledge of job-related duties, infection control, OSHA blood-borne pathogens, TB/respiratory protection plans, policies, and procedures.
Maintain patient confidentiality and access patient information only on a need-to-know basis.
