About The Position

The Flex/After-Hours Hospice RN delivers compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals receiving comprehensive health care services in a variety of home care settings, including private residences, skilled nursing facilities, personal care homes, or wherever the patient calls home. This hybrid role supports continuity of care outside regular business hours and provides flexible dayshift coverage based on the evolving needs of the hospice team. Needs may include responding to urgent patient needs, managing symptoms, supporting new admissions, and assisting with ongoing case management. The role requires strong communication skills, the competence to work autonomously, professionalism in an interdisciplinary team, and empathetic care. The schedule is three 13-hour shifts every two weeks: one weekday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every other week, and every other Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The weekday is flexible and arranged with the supervisor. An on-call shift differential of $4.00 per hour applies to shifts after 5:00 p.m. on weeknights and all day on weekend shifts, in addition to base pay.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
Current Registered Nurse license through the Kentucky Board of Nursing or a participating COMPACT state Board of Nursing.
Skilled in nursing practice and able to maintain professionalism during emotional stress.
Provide compassionate care while serving a diverse population respectfully and professionally.
Comply with accepted professional and ethical standards and principles.
Understand and support the hospice philosophy and principles of death and dying.
Maintain current CPR certification.
Provide satisfactory references from nursing schools, previous or current employers, and/or professional peers.
Have excellent observation, sound nursing judgment, and communication skills.
Be self-directed, able to work with minimal supervision, and able to work within an interdisciplinary team.
Be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligations to meet the needs of patients and BCN.
Comply with Bluegrass Care Navigators (BCN) Employee Health, infectious disease, and vaccination policies.
Be a licensed driver and have an automobile in good working order, insured according to state and/or organization requirements, with personal auto liability insurance of $100,000/$300,000 in bodily injury coverage.

One year of general nursing experience is preferred; new nursing graduates will be considered.
