About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in the 25-bed Medical Surgical Department at Texas Health Allen, providing care to post-surgery patients—including orthopedic, spine, plastics, and general surgery cases—as well as general medical overflow patients. The department is fast-paced and high-volume, with an engaged leadership team and a robust Unit Based Council. The professional nurse demonstrates an understanding of basic human needs and delivers patient care using the Nursing Process. This is a full-time night position at 1105 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The schedule is 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., three 12-hour shifts, with weekends and holidays required.

Requirements

Nursing diploma or associate degree from an accredited nursing program.
One year of experience as a registered nurse, or completion of an RN residency program.
Registered Nurse (RN) credential upon hire.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) before providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within 60 days.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
One year of medical-surgical experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process.
Assess patients.
Plan patient care.
Intervene as appropriate.
Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporate age-specific safety and infection-control measures into patient care.
Initiate action to meet patients’ and/or significant others’ need for information.
Maintain continuity of patient care across shifts and hospitals, and while expediting out-of-hospital transfers.
