The Registered Nurse will work in the Emergency Department at St Francis InterQuest Hospital, a Level IV facility with 15 beds and two trauma bays. The department has a fast track, a separate triage area, separate psychiatric/seclusion rooms, and in-house security 24/7. It treats more than 35 patients per day, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. Nurses may be required to perform triage and draw labs; both nurses and phlebotomy staff draw labs. The charge nurse takes a patient assignment. Support staffing varies by shift. The department cares for patients with conditions including abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headache, injuries, and extremity pain. Common drips include cardiac, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and analgesia infusions. Respiratory therapy is available in the ER 24/7. Equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow systems; RN responsibilities related to this equipment include troubleshooting. Scheduling allows self-scheduling and block scheduling. Full- and part-time employees are expected to self-schedule at least six weekend shifts per six-week schedule, subject to department needs, staffing plans, and equitable distribution. Holiday work is required. Call or standby requirements are determined by the Nurse Manager, as are floating requirements; in an extreme need, a nurse could float within Zone 1. The scrub color is navy blue. The clinical team interviews candidates and extends an offer on behalf of the facility if a candidate is selected. The position has a 60-mile radius requirement, and a driver’s license must be submitted. Clinicians must be in state during orientation week, even if their first-day modules are remote. The unit-specific orientation date and location are assigned during orientation week.
