About The Position

Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care and services to our consumers in our residential homes. In this role, you get the opportunity to build lasting relationships while practicing your nursing skills!

Requirements

  • Diploma from an approved nursing program, or an associate's degree in nursing
  • Two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to evaluate health care and medical service needs
  • Ability to administer medications and perform skilled nursing services, treatments and procedures
  • Ability to anticipate patients' needs
  • Ability to prepare and maintain organized, detailed and accurate medical records and charts
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Possess licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months
  • Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview
  • Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required
  • This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with an Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled (ID/DD) population preferred

Responsibilities

  • Takes, monitors, and records vital signs
  • Observes, records, and reports symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient conditions
  • Prepares and administers prescribed medications, treatments, and therapies
  • Educates staff, families, and patients on routine care and prevention procedures
  • Inventories, orders, and stocks medications and medical supplies
  • Maintains medical charts and records
  • May render emergency care in crisis situations
  • Schedules and transports individuals to their medical appointments
  • Performs other work as required
