About The Position

Scotland Health Care System is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Surgery Room at Scotland Memorial Hospital. This role involves providing direct patient care, ensuring adherence to best practices in endoscopy and gastroenterology nursing, and supervising other personnel. The RN will be responsible for patient identification, chart review, monitoring patient condition, obtaining consent, ensuring proper patient positioning, preparing and checking equipment, handling specimens, completing documentation and charges, and accompanying patients to their care units. The position also requires interviewing patients prior to procedures to assess their condition and needs, preparing supplies, and demonstrating age-specific competency for patients across the lifespan. The RN will perform duties as assigned by surgical services leadership and respond promptly to patient needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate Of Accredited Nursing Program
  • Current NC or Multistate RN licensure
  • Current BLS certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • Demonstrates Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal.
  • Diplomacy, Tact, And A Positive Approach To Problem Solving Are Required To Be Successful.
  • Organizational Skills Are A Must.
  • Fosters A Teamwork Environment.
  • Must Be Able To Communicate With Patients, Customers, Other Departments, And Staff In An Articulate And Professional Manner
  • Computer (Electronic Medical Record) Charting

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with best practice and advancements in endoscopy and gastroenterology nursing.
  • Ensures that proper technique and practice are used according to accepted standards.
  • Supervises other personnel in the room and directs or assists as necessary.
  • Ensures care of patient through proper identification, checking of chart and reporting changes in condition.
  • Ascertains that consent form is accurate and properly signed prior to procedure.
  • Ensures proper body alignment throughout procedure.
  • Have all supplies and equipment in room with equipment checks completed before procedure to ensure it is in working condition.
  • Cares for specimens and cultures according to policy and procedure.
  • Completes documentation and charges.
  • Accompanies patient to patient care unit and reports to nurse on patient procedure and special happenings.
  • Interviews patient prior to procedure to facilitate knowledge of patient, assesses condition and needs.
  • Prepares supplies and organizes materials with respect to special needs of patient and procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and ability to meet the needs of and provide care of these patients (Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs; Young Adult/Adult 18 – 64 yrs; Adult/Middle-Aged 65 - 79 yrs; Geriatric 80+ yrs).
  • Performs duties as assigned by surgical services leadership.
  • Responds promptly to patient needs and concerns.
