The Registered Nurse in the Pain Department will utilize the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards. This includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting the plan of care, as well as discharge planning based on expected patient outcomes. The role involves admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, completing ongoing patient assessments and documentation, and developing patient care plans. The nurse will also assess, collaborate, and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with the care team. This position requires demonstrating appropriate application of age-specific standards, policies, and procedures for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including medication administration and care during altered states of consciousness. Incorporating cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care is essential, as is demonstrating critical thinking skills and the ability to delegate appropriately. The nurse will provide documentation of patient care, collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary team for patient and family education, and participate in performance improvement activities. Awareness of research in nursing and the utilization of evidence-based practice are also key components of this role. Adherence to all hospital policies and procedures, including guidelines for appropriate conduct, corporate compliance, diversity, and confidentiality, is mandatory. Identifying and mitigating potential risks to patients is also a critical function.
