About The Position

At Saint Francis Hospital, the Postpartum/Maternity unit consists of 29 private rooms for postpartum, newborn, antepartum, and gynecology patients. Maternity nurses provide care to women who are pregnant or have recently given birth, newborns, and women recovering from gynecological surgery. The position is full-time, working 36 hours on 12-hour night shifts.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited college or university-affiliated nursing program.
• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• BLS CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

• BSN graduate preferred.
• ACLS preferred.
• Acute care, medical-surgical, or maternity nursing experience preferred.
• Two years of experience for per-diem positions.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional support and guidance to new mothers.
• Educate parents on best practices for feeding, bathing, and sleeping, and support breastfeeding.
• Monitor women and newborns for signs of illness or complications.
• Contribute to the quality of nursing care through performance-improvement techniques that positively affect patient care.
• Communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, with administrators, colleagues, patients, and family members.
• Educate patients and family members to promote a transparent understanding of the care being provided.
