About The Position

Cedars-Sinai is seeking a Registered Nurse for their 8South Surgical unit, which specializes in the care and treatment of adult patients requiring hospitalization for pre and post-surgical procedures and after trauma injuries. The unit primarily handles cases including colo-rectal, bariatric, urology, plastics, GYN, gender affirming, ENT, oncology, and general surgical procedures. As a Registered Nurse on 8South, you will be responsible and accountable for applying the nursing process and delivering patient care for this specialty patient population. This includes administering medications, providing patient education, documenting care, performing procedures like skin tests and phlebotomy, assessing patient conditions, planning and implementing individualized care, identifying learning readiness and safety concerns, and intervening to ensure a safe environment.

Documentation of direct and indirect patient care services
Performing skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy
Initiating peripheral venous access
Observing and assessing signs and symptoms of illness
Initiating emergency procedures when indicated
Planning and implementing individualized patient care
Reporting, referrals, and care in accordance with standardized procedures
Providing care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds
Identifying patients' readiness for learning and their ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent
Identifying and assessing patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations
Demonstrating knowledge and ability to make special adjustments to meet the needs of specific populations (cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family, and condition needs)
Intervening to provide a safe environment
Evaluating the effectiveness of interventions for patients

Responsibilities

Provide administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
Provide patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.
Provide and accurately document direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
Perform skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and initiate peripheral venous access.
Observe and assess signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, or general physical condition to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics and initiate emergency procedures when indicated.
Plan and implement individualized patient care based on observations. This will include appropriate reporting, referrals, and care in accordance with standardized procedures while providing care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Identify patients' readiness for learning and their ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent while identifying and assessing patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations.
Demonstrate the knowledge and the ability to identify and make special adjustments as required to needs of the specific populations. This will include cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family, and condition needs.
