About The Position
Adventist Health Twin Cities is a 122-bed acute care facility in Templeton serving northern San Luis Obispo County. The Registered Nurse performs professional nursing functions to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The role may function as a Scrub Technician when needed and coordinates, manages, provides, and delegates patient care. The nurse meets established Standards of Nursing Practice and promotes cooperation among the health care team. This position is represented by CNA. The nurse helps meet patients’ personal needs, obtains and reviews assessments and medical history, identifies and reports abnormal diagnostic data, recognizes emergencies, and provides care in Code Blue and other emergency situations. The role also includes medication administration and documentation, patient education, timely support for discharge planning, clear documentation and handoffs, infection-control practices, quality monitoring, and collaboration with coworkers. The nurse may assist with new staff education and adapts to changes in the unit and workflow. Adventist Health requires associates to receive required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter where applicable; medical and religious exemptions may apply. Requirements
- Graduate of a school of nursing.
- Six or more months of relevant operating room experience.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy, required within three months of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy, required within three months of hire.
- Facility-specific: BLS certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy.
- Facility-specific: AHA-PALS or ARC-PALS certification.
- Facility-specific: AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS certification.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Coordinate, manage, provide, and delegate patient care.
- Function as a Scrub Technician when needed.
- Meet patients’ personal needs and work with the team to ensure patient needs are met.
- Obtain history and physical assessments according to unit-specific nursing protocols for all age groups; review medical history, physical examinations, and assessment data.
- Identify abnormal diagnostic data and report it to the appropriate person.
- Recognize signs and symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies; function effectively in Code Blue and other emergency situations.
- Administer and document medications accurately according to hospital policies and patient rights.
- Assess patients’ educational needs and implement or assist with implementing and documenting planned education.
- Provide information needed to begin discharge planning in a timely manner to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain clear, concise, legible documentation and deliver clear, concise reports.
- Follow infection-control guidelines and maintain patient, coworker, and hospital privacy.
- Complete assigned quality monitors and participate in Lean Daily Management practices.
- Assist in developing and educating new staff members; attend staff meetings and complete department-specific education, training, and competencies.
- Ensure patient charge items are charged and documented correctly and use department resources appropriately.
- Minimize incidental overtime and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
