About The Position

Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse residency program accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program. It provides a collaborative learning environment to help new graduates refine nursing skills, build knowledge and professional relationships, and transition into professional nursing practice. Successful candidates are placed in specific units and receive clinical mentoring from unit staff and educators. New graduates are expected to remain on their NNE unit for at least 12 months and live within a reasonable commuting distance of the facility. This position is in the Ortho/Spine unit at Banner Desert Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma designated hospital. The fast-paced unit cares for surgical patients, including patients undergoing incision and debridement, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hysterectomy, and urological surgeries. Typical staffing ratios are one RN for every five or six patients. The position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards. It requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to provide care appropriate to patients’ physical and developmental needs, and accountability for the quality of nursing services delivered by the RN or those under their direction. The residency includes precepted clinical experiences, training in the Banner Simulation Center, competency and skills assessments, orientation to the Cerner electronic medical record, hands-on patient-care skills lab, e-learning modules, and professional and personal development resources. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations. This opening is listed as a full-time night-shift position, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with weekend and night shift differentials. The role is paid and benefits-eligible.
