The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. In an outpatient clinic setting, the Clinic RN uses the nursing process, technology, therapeutic interventions, evidence-based practice, and coordination with other health team members. Clinic RNs are pivotal members of a care delivery team headed by a physician and apply specialized knowledge and skills relevant to ambulatory care. The role includes prioritizing and triaging care, implementing established standing orders and protocols, and performing procedures and therapies consistent with training and licensure. The RN provides general nursing care according to established standards and procedures, obtains consent and protects confidentiality, records health histories and assessment information, delivers and monitors treatments, educates patients and families, and documents care. The RN also collaborates with other providers and community resources, participates in multidisciplinary quality improvement efforts, and tracks quality assurance and care-management data. Regular attendance on site during scheduled business hours or shifts is required.
