About The Position

Join Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Grapevine as a Registered Nurse on the Neuro PCU unit. This is a fast-paced environment for high acuity patients, fostering an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member. The patient population includes stroke, post-op surgery (brain, neck, and back), seizure, altered mental status, post thrombectomy, mild TBI, post-op craniotomy, degenerative neuro disorders, and alcohol withdrawal. The patient ratios are 1:3-5 across 32 beds. The department features an active Unit Based Council, self-scheduling, a culture of teamwork and safety, and leadership that promotes growth and engagement. The shift is full-time nights, from 7pm to 7am. This role requires 2 years of recent PCU acute care hospital experience.

Requirements

  • 2 years of recent PCU acute care hospital experience
  • Graduated from an Accredited Program
  • Specialized field of study in nursing
  • RN license
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting

  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessment, recognizing health issues.
  • Create and implement care plans, assessing patient responses.
  • Adjust care plans to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members on healthcare.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
  • Contribute to peers' development and show commitment to community service.
