Registered Nurse for the LDRP unit, with floating assignments to MedSurg and the ER as needed, or elsewhere in the hospital. The department has 15 beds: 7 L&D and 8 postpartum, with one OR suite for C-sections and approximately 58 births per month. Patient populations are primarily obstetric and neonatal, including patients with hypertension and gestational diabetes; the unit tries not to deliver patients before 36 weeks. The nurse interprets fetal strips, reads their own strips, and titrates Pitocin, insulin, and magnesium drips. Staffing guidance includes 1:1 assignments for Pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips and 1:3 couplet care. A charge nurse is present each shift and takes an assignment. CNAs assist with vital signs, transfer paperwork, desk coverage in the locked unit, turning, and ambulation. OB/neonatology and anesthesia are not in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment is available; nurses are not required to perform tasks with it beyond troubleshooting. Shifts are 0645–1915 and 1845–0715. Self-scheduling is not available; block scheduling is allowed. Weekend and holiday requirements are every other weekend and every other holiday. Call or standby depends on staffing. Unit-specific orientation is three shifts. Scrubs are provided; the unit scrub color is maroon, and the RN changes into surgical scrubs on the unit.
