About The Position

Responsible for providing professional nursing care for SIH patients in the Intensive Care Unit on the day shift. The nurse assesses patients’ mental, physical, and spiritual needs; develops and carries out individualized care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team; provides patient and family support and health education; documents care; and advocates for patients. The position also includes supervision and delegation responsibilities, floating to other SIH nursing units within the nurse’s competency level, and completing required education, competencies, and licensure.

Requirements

Associate, diploma, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in nursing.
Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
Current CPR/BLS card.
Current ACLS card, to be obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Assess patients to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needs.
Establish a compassionate environment that provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individual plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team.
Provide health teaching and counseling to promote, attain, and maintain patients’ optimum health.
Use clinical judgment and critical thinking to recognize, act upon, and report changes in patient condition.
Complete accurate and timely documentation in the patient medical record.
Provide input into the development of policies and procedures that support patient safety and quality of care.
Supervise and delegate responsibilities to licensed practical nurses and/or unlicensed assistant personnel.
Advocate for patients by communicating and collaborating with other health service professionals.
Complete required education, competencies, and licensure in a timely manner.
Float to other SIH nursing units within competency level.
