Registered Nurse Medical Intermediate Care Center Full-time Nights
About The Position
The Staff Nurse Inpatient is a clinically competent registered professional nurse who provides care to acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care; interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other health team members; and maintains ANA standards of professional nursing practice. The role is on CDH 4C, a 26-bed, fast-paced, mixed-acuity Medical Intermediate Unit. This inpatient unit cares for patients with complex medical conditions, postoperative needs, or clinical instability requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, frequent assessments, and timely interventions. The position reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values and follows its Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, applicable policies, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The role is full-time nights, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with rotating weekends.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others.
- Strong analytical abilities.
- An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is acceptable with a commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of the first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.

- Experience in the specific clinical area.
- For Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room positions: Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS), Emergency Communications Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Nurse, or Certified Emergency Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze patient data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
- Direct care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff.
- Create and document plans focused on outcomes and decisions related to care and service delivery, including communications with patients, families, and others.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
- Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
- Comply with Northwestern Medicine policies, procedures, guidelines, and relevant regulatory and accreditation standards.
