The Extended Recovery Unit (ERU) is a specialized post-surgical 17 bed unit, providing overnight care for patients recovering from outpatient surgery and Interventional Radiology procedures. The surgical patient population cared for are those recovering from ENT, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, GYN, and General Surgery. Our patients arrive mainly from PACU, requiring an overnight stay after their outpatient surgery. Patients staying in the ERU receive quality care throughout their stay and are typically ready for discharge by 10:00 a.m. the morning following their surgery or procedure. Our goal length of stay is less than 24 hours. As a unit we promote teamwork, communication, professional development, and participation in Shared Governance, which helps drive decision making at the bedside. Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population.
