Sentara Heart Hospital, located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Advanced Heart Failure Specialty Unit. This is a full-time night shift position. New graduate nurses are welcome to apply. The Sentara Heart Hospital is a 112-bed care facility recognized for its Cardiology services and Heart Surgery. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also adheres to standards of professional performance such as ethics, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The Advanced Heart Failure Unit is a 24-bed specialty unit providing high acuity cardiac care to patients with severe heart failure, pre/post heart transplant, mechanical circulatory ventricular assist devices, and pulmonary hypertension. Nurses work with high-tech equipment like ventricular assist devices (LVAD, BiVAD) and telemetry monitors. The environment requires 24-hour communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork skills. Nurses typically handle 3-4 patients on this unit based on acuity level.
