About The Position

Sentara Heart Hospital, located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Advanced Heart Failure Specialty Unit. This is a full-time night shift position. New Graduate Nurses are welcome to apply! The Sentara Heart Hospital is a 112-bed care facility, recognized for its Cardiology services and Heart Surgery. Up to $20,000 Sign-on Bonus available for Qualified Candidates. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also adheres to standards of professional performance such as ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The Advanced Heart Failure Unit is a 24-bed specialty unit providing high acuity cardiac care to patients with severe heart failure, pre/post heart transplant, mechanical circulatory ventricular assist devices, and pulmonary hypertension. Nurses work with high-tech equipment such as mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices (LVAD, BiVAD) and telemetry monitors. The environment relies on 24-hour consistent communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork skills. Nurses handle 3-4 patients on this unit based on acuity level.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Virginia RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.
  • All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
  • Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire
  • None required experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Previous healthcare experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
