About The Position

Messino Cancer Centers is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to join their growing infusion team. This role focuses on providing safe, accurate, and efficient patient care, including patient assessment, lab and vital sign review, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. The nurse will follow specific Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) and provide triage care when necessary, communicating effectively with multidisciplinary team members.

Requirements

  • Nursing Degree
  • Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
  • Current CPR and BLS certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.
  • EMR experience

Nice To Haves

  • Second language is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers, using Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
  • Provide new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
  • Document thorough, accurate, and timely information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.
  • Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
  • Follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects, and planned treatment course.
  • Interact with patients and families in a caring, professional manner.
  • Perform telephone triage, prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, pharmacies, and physician offices, and responding appropriately in a timely manner.
  • Assist with inventory and re-stocking of medical supplies, and recommend purchase of new items as needed.
  • Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
  • Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.
  • Work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs on an as-needed basis, within reasonable expectations.
  • Work overtime when given sufficient notice.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adhere to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.
