About The Position

Austin Oaks Hospital, a UHS facility, is an 80-bed psychiatric hospital offering comprehensive services for adults. We provide a supportive, home-like environment focused on crisis resolution, self-awareness, social skills, and personal growth through inpatient and outpatient programs. Located in South Austin, we are seeking Registered Nurses for the Day Shift (7a-7p). The RN will be responsible for implementing and evaluating patient care, supervising nursing staff, and pursuing professional development. This role involves patient admissions, documentation, medication management, participation in interdisciplinary teams, milieu management, crisis intervention, reporting unsafe conditions, age-specific care, health education, discharge planning, and maintaining professional interactions. The position also requires attendance at mandatory staff meetings and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (or licensed in a compact state).
CPR and hospital de-escalation certifications which can be obtained during orientation.
Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as a nationwide background check and pre-employment drug screen.
State and Federal Office of the Inspector General check.

Nice To Haves

One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Completes patient admissions process, including nursing assessment.
Documents ongoing patient assessments/progress clearly and concisely as required by hospital and regulatory agency standards.
Medication management – administer medication and medical treatment as prescribed by a physician.
Participates as member of interdisciplinary treatment team.
Ensures nursing interventions.
Provides milieu management and unit team leadership.
Provides appropriate nursing intervention/documentation in crisis situations.
Reports unsafe conditions.
Provides age-specific communication, limit setting and interventions.
Provides health education to patients and their families.
Prepares and adheres to facility patient discharge process.
Interacts with patients and staff in professional manner, promotes teamwork and demonstrates Service Excellence
Attends mandatory staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
