The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is assisted patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. As such, this performance evaluation is based on these standards. Requirements

  • Graduate from NLN School of Nursing
  • Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred.
  • Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification for Emergency Department
  • PALS certification for Emergency Department
  • TNCC certification for Emergency Department
  • One (1) year of inpatient clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, Accreditation Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
  • Supervise LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and Unit Technicians.
  • Demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations.
  • Maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Proficiently use a computer (keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
