About The Position

Over 185 MESD employees work in School Health Services. We ensure the safety of students by providing the highest standard of nursing care in the school and community setting so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their educational potential. We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, screening and prevention specialists who provide and coordinate specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. We are committed to employee and community wellness, advocacy on behalf of students and their families, collaboration with community health systems and school based health centers, research and development to improve population health in schools, and using evidenced-based practice in the delivery of care. We support the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model that combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach by responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications are being accepted now and will be reviewed as positions become available. An Oregon RN license is required prior to the start date. The salary listed reflects the 2025-2026 Salary Schedule.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon RN license.
  • Experience in the use of computer systems.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.
  • Daily and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable laws, nursing practice regulations, and standards.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job.
  • Ability to become proficient in navigating internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to the delivery of school health services.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in [language] at a level meeting District standards (Intermediate-High/Level 6 composite or equivalent).

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual in languages commonly spoken within the communities served, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Tagalog, or other Asian languages.
  • Experience in an educational/ school setting.
  • Deep expertise and extensive experience engaging with Asian and Asian American communities.
  • Strong understanding of the traditions, values, customs, and histories of diverse Asian and Asian American communities.
  • Ability to provide specific examples of meaningful, direct engagement with individuals and families who identify as part of these communities.
  • Preferred BSN or BS in a health-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive health services to the students and school communities served by the Multnomah Education Service District.
  • Implement appropriate use of the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care in the school community, including nursing delegation and training for an anticipated emergency.
  • Manage delivery of school health services, including health screenings, communicable disease control, health education, and environmental monitoring.
  • Demonstrate and apply evidence-based knowledge and clinical competencies, including the appropriate use of technology and effective service delivery practices.
  • Collaborate with the student, family, school staff, school nurse colleagues and other pertinent professional and community persons, including supervisor, in the delivery of school health services.
  • Facilitate resource access and utilization by the school, student, and family to meet the student’s safety, health, and education needs.
  • Participate in the development/improvement of and demonstrate delivery of quality nursing practice.
  • Adhere to the rules and procedures of the licensing agency for the license carried for this position.
  • Maintain a satisfactory job attendance record.
  • Use personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff.
  • Provide oral and written communication in the designated language to students, families, and staff regarding health services, medical care plans, emergency procedures, and health education.
  • Translate and/or interpret health-related information consistent with the scope of nursing practice.
  • Support culturally responsive health practices by integrating linguistic and cultural knowledge into service delivery.
  • Regularly utilize bilingual skills as part of assigned duties to meet student and family needs.
