The Registered Nurse provides care across telemetry, neuro telemetry, and medical-surgical units. The role requires the ability to interpret EKGs and titrate cardiac drips. Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer, with a maximum of two attempts, before signing a contract. A pass/fail simulation lab is also required on the first day of orientation. Failure of either assessment results in being sent home and marked do-not-use for six months for the specified CSH regions. Floating is required and may include all telemetry and medical-surgical units, the ICU depending on skill level, and holding areas such as the cath lab, emergency room, observation floor, or a hallway. Nurses may float between the Chandler and Mercy Gilbert campuses, which are nine miles apart; campus and unit notification is provided 1.5 hours before shift start. Mid-shift unit changes can occur, and inter-campus floating within a shift is possible but rare. Nurses must clock out when leaving one campus and clock in upon arrival at the other. The units described provide 12-hour shifts from 7 to 7, with unit-specific weekend requirements and two shifts or days of floor orientation. The CV Tele B3A and Tele Neuro units use centralized telemetry, and nurses must interpret EKGs. The medical-surgical units use client monitors read by a central monitoring station technician. Unit populations include cardiac and vascular procedure patients, neuro and spine patients, and general medical-surgical, orthopedic, surgical, and oncology patients. No pediatric patients are cared for; the minimum age on CV Tele B3A is 15.
