The Registered Nurse - OR PRN position involves the delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcome) during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical patients. The role requires adherence to recognized nursing standards, department policies, the Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act. Responsibilities include assessing patient health status, pain, and understanding of care, documenting information, identifying patient outcomes and diagnoses, establishing goals, formulating and implementing care plans, problem-solving, responding to emergencies, and practicing within legal and ethical guidelines. Specific duties include demonstrating proper preoperative processes, surgical case counting and documentation, aseptic technique, efficient turnover, obtaining blood products, patient identification verification, surgical site identification and marking, and anticipating surgeon's needs. Participation in a Professional Nursing Organization is also encouraged.
