About The Position

La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is located in quiet, residential areas in Maitland and Winter Park, Florida, near Orlando. We provide treatment for individuals from young adolescents to adults, addressing psychiatric issues, chemical dependency, and dual diagnoses. Our therapeutic environment is serene and homelike, complemented by the semitropical climate of Central Florida that allows for year-round activities. The staff at La Amistad, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and Mental Health Technicians, work collaboratively to maintain our reputation for excellence in helping patients resolve behavioral health issues. This is a full-time, overnight position with 3 x 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Demonstrate leadership, communication, teaching, and management skills.
  • Knowledge of current nursing procedures, the nursing process, and correct administration of medications.
  • Work is physically and mentally demanding.
  • Extensive walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to lift over fifty (50) pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Six (6) months in psychiatric nursing.

Responsibilities

  • In charge of unit activities for each shift and supervises Milieu Coordinators and Mental Health Technicians.
  • Administers prescribed medications.
  • Provides medication and other educational groups on the shift.
  • Completes and documents comprehensive nursing assessment within 8 hours of patients’ admission.
  • Identifies patient’s needs, problems, capabilities, and limitations supported by assessment data, reflecting knowledge of biophysical and psychosocial sciences.
  • Interacts therapeutically with residents.
  • Acts as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in planning care by providing input.
  • Plans continuity of patient care with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Utilizes psychotherapeutic interventions to assist patients in regaining or improving coping abilities and preventing further disability.
  • Understands basics of Common Psychiatric Diagnoses and recognizes associated behaviors.
  • Evaluates and demonstrates age-specific behaviors, motor skills, and psychological norms.
  • Demonstrates Service Excellence with Internal & External Customers.
