About The Position

The 23-bed Emergency Department of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway is equipped to treat critical and life-threatening conditions in patients of all ages. The department has the additional support of Baylor Scott & White's multidisciplinary team, providing access to specialists in a full range of care, ensuring you receive quality medical care during the times you need it most. The department features board-certified emergency room physicians and trauma-trained nurses, a Chest Pain Team as an official STEMI (ST-Segment elevation myocardial infarction) Designated Center, a Resuscitation Center of Excellence, and is CalmerKids Certified. Specialty physicians are on call 24 hours a day for general and vascular surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, nuclear medicine, and internal medicine. Patients cared for here have 24-hour access to laboratory, X-ray and surgical services.

Requirements

Graduated from an Accredited Program with a specialized field of study in nursing.
RN license.
BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

Build relationships, manage discomfort, and stay professional in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
Assess and document learning needs regularly.
Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
